Review: February 2014 Hunt Auction Results

Best of "The Bobby Wine Collection"

The February 2014 online auction by Hunt Auctions featured 47  lots originating from the personal collection of long time Phillies player (1960 - 1968) and coach (1972 - 1983), Bobby Wine.  As a member of the Phillies, Wine, now 75, was part of some of the most memorable seasons in team history - and his collection has been loaded with mementos related to those Summer's.  Here are a few of the Phillies-themed highlights:

Vintage Game-Used Balls

Four identical lots of vintage game-used balls - one each from the 1980 and 1983 World Series and a 100th Anniversary logo ball.  The opportunity to a game-used World Series ball is rare, let alone two related to the Phillies.  But, the real gem is the Anniversary logo ball, which was used for one game only: May 1, 1983.  The three lots sold in the same range: $317 - 355.

1980 Game-Worn Hat

Notes on this lot show that Wine wore this hat during the Phillies National League Championship clinching game on October 12, 1980.  History aside, the best part of the hat are the personalized notations made by Wine in the band and underside of the brim, "Winning hat".  Also included in this lot was a game-used 1980 World Series ball.  Overall, an awesome lot.  Winning bid: $246.

Assorted Memorabilia 1950s - 1990s

I am one of those guys who loves digging through boxes at flea markets - and any lot that includes the word "assorted" speaks my name!  This lot had some great items such as a Connie Mack Stadium seat bottom, 1964 NL Champions phantom pennant and an interesting 1959 "instructional book" with "Mr. Eddie Sawyer" printed on the front.  It was out of my price range, but man, would I have loved to dig through this box!  Winning bid: $293.
