Goldin Auctions - Mike Schmidt Collection
Updated: November 4, 2014
Bidding on Goldin Auction's, "October Legends" auction ended on November 1st - and with it items from "The Mike Schmidt Collection" found new owners. In total the 18 lots of memorabilia which had previously belonged to the Phillies Hall of Famer recorded more than $200,000 in sales, collecting nearly 200 bids!
Top sellers for the collection were Schmidt's 1976 "Sultan of Swat" award, which ended at $55,660 and his 1984 Rawlings Gold Glove Award at $44,770. In addition to the selection of professional keepsakes, there were a number of pieces related to his high school and collegiate career. While not necessarily fetching bargain basement prices, these lots generally sold between $1,500 and $3,300 - making them a reasonably priced addition to any Schmidt collection lacking some of his "early stuff."

When Goldin Auctions', "Legends Auction" opens on October 6th, it will include a number of notable items from Mike Schmidt's collegiate and professional career. Originating from Schmidt's personal collection, each items bears personal letters of authenticity from the third baseman. This is the first time pieces from his collection have reached the public marketplace.
An interview with Goldin Auctions' CEO, Ken Goldin earlier this week highlighted a few of the lots, with some expected to fetch more than $100k! While the discussion around the auction has emphasized the fact that items from Schmidt's collection have not previously been publicly offered, I believe the real news is with those true pieces of baseball and Phillies history peppered throughout.
