Flyers Oddballs: 1975-76 Hockey Heroes Pin Up/Stand Up Sportrophies
This mid-1970s set of 37-cards features players across six NHL teams: Flyers, Sabres, Bruins, Canadiens, Islanders and Maple Leafs. Cards in the set were produced with a few variations such as size, design and distribution. The Flyers, Bruins and Sabres cards are larger (15.5"x8.75") than cards for the other three teams (13.5"x7.5"), and along with the Canadiens and Maple Leafs were packaged for individual distribution. The Islanders were sold in strips of two or three.
The design for the Flyers (and all other larger sized) die-cut cards include full color player photos framed in a yellow border with red stars. A facsimile autograph is at the bottom edge of the frame. The smaller cards do not have stars on the border and say "Hockey Heroes" in a funky 70's font on the side. Backs for all, regardless of size, are blank. One of the cool features is the "base" which can be removed and used with a tab at the bottom to stand the card upright.
The popularity of the Bullies and general scarcity of the cards keeps prices in the $50-75 range for the set of six cards (sealed), or $10-15 per card individually.
