Collector of the Week: Scott Weigner
What I Collect:
I collect anything Phillies: Cards, books, bobble-heads, McFarlane Sports Picks, etc. - primarily Lenny Dykstra (Its the only way Mets goods get into my collection). I also do my own Phillies/Baseball Digital Paintings.
When I Started Collecting:
When I was a kid. I used to make sure to get all the yearbooks when I went to the Vet and CBP. In 1985, I was watching the Mets on Channel 9 and saw this Center-fielder named Lenny Dykstra play. I instantly became a fan (YES, I know he was a Met, but he just played the game hard and the right way). Needless to say once he became a Phillie I was thrilled and was now able to get some red and white into the collection. Yes, I know I'll be bashed for "liking a criminal" or he is a piece of SH!T and all that fun stuff. Yes, what he did post-baseball was wrong, but what he did between the foul lines was something special to me.
My Most Favorite Item/Items:
I would say the game-used Lenny Dykstra equipment (Cleats, Batting Gloves, Fielding Glove, Hat). Also, my seat from the Vet that my parents surprised me with on one of my birthdays. And, I'm quite fond of the painting I did of Chase Utley.
The Rest...
The collection in the photos is missing a lot of stuff that I just didn't have room for at this time. I have all of Lenny Dykstra's baseball cards, any magazine he was on the cover of, or in a article. I have a banner that hung on the gates at Veterans Stadium during the final days of the final season (2003).
My love for baseball also goes into my artwork. Over the past few years I started doing sports art - primarily baseball. The original goal was to do all of the players from the 2008 World Series team. My work can be seen at: http://scott-weigner.artistwebsites.com. I am currently working on creating my on site, just trying to set aside the time.
