Collectible of the Week - Jim Thome Lunch Box
Jim Thome Lunch Box
Yesterday (8/30/15) the Phillies held their annual back-to-school promotion by handing out soft-sided lunch boxes for all children 15 years and younger. While they have given away everything from pencils and rulers to Trapper Keepers as part of this promo over the years - their lunch boxes have always stood out as their best offerings. Thinking about those SGAs from previous seasons made me wonder what other Phillies-themed lunch boxes may exist - leading me to this one featuring Jim Thome, made by Pro Specialties Group, Inc. (PSG).
PSG is a manufacturer of officially licensed merchandise for both the NFL and Major League Baseball, creating a number of items including this soft-sided lunch box originating from Thome's original turn with the team in the early-2000s. The lunch box is two sided - with one side featuring a photo of Thome following through on a swing with a Phillies script logo inside a half-circle graphic and "Thome" in red block letters. The other side has the Phillies "Liberty Bell" logo with a baseball background. Though most of PSG's other lunch box offerings contained only team logos, through a little research found similar releases for other stars of the day, Manny Rameriz and Ichiro Suzuki.
