Collectible of the Week - 2003, MBNA Promotional Bobble Head

The early 2000's was the height of credit card, event direct promotions - and Wilmington (DE) issuer, MBNA America was the king of event tabling.  At the time you could find them promoting their affinity cards at events ranging from NASCAR races to Renaissance Fairs - with fairly solid premiums.  And, with bobble heads regaining popularity, MBNA made their nodding giveaways the draw at Major League and NFL stadiums around the country.

The bank produced two bobble heads for the Phillies promotions - one each for 2002 and 2003.  The design was a take on the classic "boy-face" of the 1960s.  The player wears a red-pinstriped, white home uniform and red hat; and, is holding a bat. Across the back of his uniform is the team name, "PHILLIES" in outlined, red letters and large numbers, "03." (Note: The 2002 version has a number "1" on the back).  The resin figures stand on a green base with, "Phillies" in white, block letters - measuring 7.5" tall.  It is surprising that MBNA did not include a logo-emblazon plaque on the front.
