Auction Watch: Worthridge Auctions, Reggie White Collection
Worthridge Auctions, out of Kennerville, NC, is hosting the auction of items originating from the Reggie White Estate this month - with bidding ending at 10PM, June 29th. The auction is representative of White's entire playing career, with items spanning his time as an All-American at Tennessee to his NFL curtain-call with the Carolina Panthers. For Philly sports collectors, like me, the real interest lies in the lots which focus on his time as an Eagle. Below are a few highlights from those lots:
Lot #218 - Game-Worn Reggie White Helmet
This is one of those lots that makes me wish I had a few thousand dollars to give away... A vintage 1980s, game-worn helmet, with padding and a ton of visible game usage.
Lot #228 - 1989 Mackey Award (NFC Defensive Lineman of the Year)
I gave displaying my personal trophies long ago - but, it would be cool to put up one that belonged to Reggie! Measuring in at 13.5" high, and weighing 7.5 pounds, this thing has a little size to it, too. I did some research to see if I could find a photo of him receiving the award, but the best I could do was this article which mentions White as an honoree. Still a nice momento from his Philly playing days...
Lot #229 - 1989 Game Ball
Talk about display pieces - this is one of several "game balls" that are up for grabs. Each one is nicely decorated, and could be the centerpiece of any Eagles collection. The ball in this lot originates from a December 3, 1989 matchup against the Giants. Reggie recorded a sack that day, which is probably best remembered for Randall Cunningham's 91-yard punt.
