Auction Watch: Wheatland Auction Services - October 2014
Wheatland Auction Services' October Sports Card and Memorabilia auction ends tonight - with soft closes beginning at 7 PM. As usual, this month's catalogue includes a number of vintage sports cards, and reasonably priced Phillies autographs and memorabilia. Here are a few lots you want to keep your eyes on tonight:
Lot #69 - High-Grade Vintage Phillies Cards
Wheatland's calling card is their vintage card lots. While there are tobacco card and non-Philly sports lots aplenty this month, this lot of four (4) high-grade Phillies cards stood out to me. Lets face it - if you're buying vintage, you'll want it graded. At it's current bid of $25 - you would receive an unbelievable deal. Included are two Robin Roberts (1959 Topps, 1954 Bowman), Curt Simmons (1955 Bowman) and Dallas Green (1962 Topps) which have been evaluated under Beckett's Raw Card Review program.
Lot #124 - Jimmy Rollins Single-Signed Ball
Each month there seems to be one or two single-signed baseball steals, and October is no different. Here is a Selig baseball signed by Jimmy Rollins that I believe dates back to the early 2000s. There is some mild toning of the ball present, but the autograph, in blue pen still looks strong. This makes a good choice for a collector interested in picking up a Rollins ball.
Lot #612 - Assorted Phillies Memorabilia
Titled, "Phillies Fan Box", this lot features a mix of Phillies yearbooks, autographs and limited releases. Included are 1980, 1981, 1983 yearbooks, a 2009 World Series program, 1979 Burger King card set, signed 4x6 team cards and more. While nothing here is going to make you rich, at a bid of $25 you will be able to get a number of desirable yearbooks - with the limited release from 1981 - well below market value.
