Auction Watch: Hunt Auctions, September 2016
Hunt Auction's September 2016 internet event is offering a selection of memorabilia from longtime Phillies player and coach Bobby Wine's personal collection. And, after a few years of purging we may have finally reached the last of what the former shortstop has to offer. Here is a small sample of the 27 lots up for bid ending Wednesday, September 28th.
Lot # 56 - Game-Used Memorabilia
Not all items in the collection are specific to Wine. For example, the early molded-plastic batting helmet insert attributed to his former teammate Roy Sievers in this lot is one of the more historically interesting pieces of equipment. At a time when players still did not routinely wear helmets to bat, Sievers seemed to be at the forefront of protective wear. Also included are a vintage hat and pair of cleats from Wine's playing days. See the lot.
Lot # 221 - Coaches Gear
Wine not only played for the Phillies, but he served as a coach for four different managers from 1972-1983. This lot includes some great vintage items from his bullpen bag. The bag itself would be a cool display piece, but along with it comes a full set of Phillies-maroon colored catcher's gear - and the real gem, a sheet documenting the team's signals. A truly unique piece of memorabilia from those great late-1970s teams. See the lot.
