Auction Watch: Mike Schmidt, 1976 NL ASG Hat
I came across an interesting item up for bid on eBay over the weekend: The hat worn by Phillies slugger Mike Schmidt during the 1976 National League AS Team Photo. According to the auction description each player was given a pillbox-style hat to wear in the official team photo. The National League team hat was white with a blue bill, and blue "N." I especially like the three red lines running parallel to the flat top, across the hat.
I don't think the teams wore the hats during the game - but, it is an interesting piece of history nonetheless. The auction has received 13 bids totaling $525 - however, the reserve price has yet to be reached. For those who have the means, it could be bought outright for $3k...
