UPDATE (3/5/15):
The other shoe has dropped - and now Phillies collectors know when and how to acquire the 1960s-themed, vintage bobble head. Friday, June 19th will be "Retro Night," and the first 1,000 fans to purchase tickets through the theme-night site will received the bobble head variant.
As we saw with the theme nights last season, ticket holders will receive a voucher that may be redeemed at a designated location at the game. A bonus: tickets priced $47 and under will have a $4 discount applied!
Buy now. This promotion is sure to sell-out!
Thanks to reader, Harrison Tishler for the tip on the added theme night!
Update (2/17/15):
The Phillies released an expanded promotional schedule today. Single game tickets go on sale later this week, and it's time to pull out the big guns! Included in the release was a picture of the "Vintage" bobble head - which as I wrote earlier will be dressed in the alternate home uniform.
What to Expect: 2015 Phillies "Vintage" Bobble Head
2014 "Vintage" Brewers bobble
What's old is new again at Citizens Bank Park... When the Phillies announced their preliminary 2015 promotion a few weeks ago, June 2nd was one of the dates that collectors zeroed in on. That day the home team takes on the Cincinnati Reds - and more importantly for collectors, hand out a "Vintage" bobble head to all fans. With no photos yet posted, the collecting community has buzzed about what to expect with this promotion. Well, we finally have some answers...
According to Scott Brandreth, Phillies Director of Merchandising, the promotion will closely resemble the "throw-back," generic boy bobble head design used by the Milwaukee Brewers for their 2014 "Vintage Bobble Head" SGA (pictured left). The resin bobble will be dressed in a Phillies' cream, home alternate uniform. And yes, there is will be a variant made - dressed in a 1960s-era home uniform.
After more than a decade of focusing on player-themed bobble heads, Brandreth cited a desire to breathe new life into the promo by switching things up with the "vintage" nodder. And, it's hard to argue with the direction. Many collectors complained loudly about another round of Ryan Howard and Chase Utley last year - and have already been grumbling about this year's potential subjects. Going retro gives us all something new (or old) to look forward to this summer...
