Exclusive Details on the 2015 Larry Bowa Bobble Figurine
The Phillies initial promotional schedule included a mystery "Bobble Figurine" promotion penciled in on August 18th - would it be a current player? And, if so - which one? When I talked to Phillies Director of Merchandising, Scott Brandreth a few weeks ago I learned the late season bobble would honor a switch-hitting alumnus, though he wouldn't leak which one. With an announcement last week, we now know that mystery alum is Larry Bowa.
The topic came up organically in response to my question about why the Phillies haven't followed the lead of other teams such as the Dodgers or Cardinals in leveraging their alumni in SGA promotions. "Why do you say that? We had a John Kruk figurine a few seasons ago," Brandreth said. "In fact, we're going to do an alumni bobble head in August." Pressed for details, Scott let out one more piece of information: the alumnus was a switch-hitter - and the variant will be of him hitting from the opposite side of the plate (than the standard).
Personally, I am excited about another Bowa bobble head being released. He is one of my favorite Phillies and with a connection to the current team as the bench coach - his selection makes sense. The switch-hitting twist is a first for the team and provides us with something new to look forward to this summer.
