Collectible of the Week: 1994 Phillies Burger King Fotoballs
Fotoball USA, which at one time held licenses with MLB, NFL, NHL and NBA, was a major producer of promotional products and souvenirs during the 1990s. While they made many different types of things, collectors will likely most associate them with their namesake - the synthetic "fotoball" baseball.
The fotoball typically had a picture of a baseball player on one side and the team logo on the other. In the mid-90s, they were showing up everywhere - including Delaware Valley Burger King restaurants. During the summer of 1994, the fast-food chain sponsored a set of five Phillies fotoballs - four featuring two players each and one with the Phillies logo. The player balls were sold separately over a period of four weeks (the logo ball was included with the display stand). A nice novelty set, the 1994 Burger King fotoballs can be purchased for $2-3 apiece, and the entire set can sometimes be found on eBay for between $10-15.
